ArtBakery is a centre dedicated to the development of contemporary art and to the artistic growth of young talented visual artists. We expect to reach this by providing a space both physical and mental where dialogue and exchange are sought and encouraged. The Portfolio Program (A.I.R) has provided the platform for local and international artists to meet and share their experiences.

Martin Blum
Martin is a visual artist from Basel, Switzerland and has been invited in the framework of the exchange program with IAAB-Basel. He is well known for his collaborative work with fellow compatriot, Ganz. The bulk of his production is installation and performance-based. He has travelled the world and during his stay, has collaborated extensively with people from the neighbourhood...

Ginette Daleu
Ginette Daleu is the first artist-in-residence (with Luc Fosther Diop) Her stay lasted one month in October 2003.She is currently one of the few female artists on the local art scene. She is based in Mbalmayo and Douala/ Cameroon http://exitour.netfirms.com, http://gindal.100webspace.net
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Luc Fosther Diop
This Douala-based visual artist was the first artist-in- residence in Bonendale. His previous work explored issues related to architecture and the urban landscape. Today the young artist is focussed on the city and its inner dynamics. http://lucdio.100webspace.net

Dreamers

A Yaounde-based collective of international visual artists http://dreamers.netfirms.com were received by ArtBakery for a two-week stay. Achilleka and Jean Marc Siangue joined Goddy Leye to work with the people on numerous multimedia projects. http://dreamers.netfirms.com (Achilleka on picture)

Dodji Efoui
Dodji's stay at Artbakery lasted three months. The artist obviously pursued his research in painting and drawing, but also worked in music with the view to producing an album that will combine sound, music and video. Dodji worked with youths from the village and after his stay, decided to settle in Bonendale. http://dodefo.100webspace.net

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Justine Gaga
Justine Gaga is the artist who stayed longer at ArtBakery. She clearly was looking for more than a residency program. She needed to carry out an indepth exploration of the theme of loneliness with different means of expression. This culminated in her first solo exhibition in March 2007 at Africrea Art Centre, Yaounde/ Cameroon.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Dunja Herzog
Dunja stayed twice at ArtBakery and has been instrumental in building the bridge between IAAB Basel, Cercle Kapsiki Douala and ArtBakery, through an exchange program. She is the one who developed the project and ensured that it started well. http://exitour.netfirms.com

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sonia Khurana
Sonia Khurana was the first internation artist to bless ArtBakery with a stay. She directed a video workshop with youths from Bonendale, familiarising them with the camera and the art of telling stories with moving images.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Bill Kouelany
Bill Kouelany was the second international artist to stay at ArtBakery. She focussed on the use of new media in the production of art. ArtBakery particularly proud of the numerous professional achievement of this wonderful lady. After exhibiting around the world, she has been selected for Documenta 12.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Eza Komla
This talented and ambitious Lome-based artist met the exit tour team when they were in Togo, early 2006 http://exitour.netfirms.com , and decided to come to Bonendale. His enthusiastic demand met the agreement of ArtBakery and in October 2006, the Togolese artist could be in Douala for a month stay at ArtBakery. Both parties expressed deep satisfaction at the end of the residency and there are good prospects of further collaboration in the nearest future.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Alioum Moussa
Alioum's stay revolved around a work based on family albums from Bonendale and dealing with memory. He manipulated images drawn from various family albums, questioning photos as memories. He has been the first artist to represent Cameroun in the Basel-Douala exchange program.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Boris Nzebo
This very young artist is certainly going to be an important figure on the national art scene if current efforts are sustained and if he receives appropriate support. ArtBakery has chosen him as the young artist-in-residence 2008. His profound work on hair styles in the urban landscape was pursued in better conditions in Bonendale. He started exploring new paths during his stay...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Guy Wouete
This is the local artist who has been most successful of late. He has been selected to Dak'art 06, has received a prize from Fondation Blachere, has been a Unesco laureate with the Unesco-Aschberg bursary for artist (a stay in Colombia)... He was artist-in-residence at ArtBakery as well. ArtBakery has very little to claim in this extraordinary series of successes. The artist's sole strategies and approach to the art world account for them.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hervé Youmbi
Hervé is certainly one of the most talented and hard working artist on the local art scene. He is used to the international art world as well. His stay at ArtBakery shall be centered on media art related issues. ArtBakery is very proud to have him as artist-in-residence.

ArtBakery
Oasis de créativité since 2003

ArtBakery is bent on developing its infrastructure i.e. loadging, studio and workshops, ;ultimedia lab, documentation centre... to meet the needs of a growing number of candidates wishing to come to Bonendale.
In just 4 years, ArtBakery has become a landmark on the local art scene. Its intention is to continue to play a major role in the growth of a dynamic art scene open to the world. Sustained collaborative work with local (Doual'art, Africrea...) and international organisations (RAIN, Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, DOEN, AMA, IAAB...) shall certainly insure this and may turn ArtBakery into an international laboratory of contemporary creative enterprises.

DOEN is currently our major support in our efforts to set up an efficient organisation and a functional architectural structure to house our activities.
